Roadway project helps agriculture to thrive
Chinese company makes inroads in rural Kenya by building key international link for farm produce
Kenya’s rural population is reaping big benefits from an infrastructure project undertaken by a Chinese company that is spurring growth in the local economy and accelerating integration with a neighboring country.
China National Aero-Technology International Engineering started work on the government-funded, 30-kilometer Chwele-Lwakhakha road in 2016. It is now 55 percent complete. The project is expected to boost agriculture and commercial activities along its route, which links the East African nation to its western neighbor Uganda. The two countries form one of the busiest markets for agricultural commodities.
